First
off, if you looked at the URL and were hoping for naked pictures
of the Bennetts (shame on you) then you will be relieved or
disappointed to see how
the domain name parses out into natural English.
That said, welcome
to our website covering our round-the-world trip in 2005
The aim of this
site is to keep all our family and friends up to date with the planning
and execution of our travels.
All the action for the site can be found in the discussion forum, you can go there now to
have a look and a read but you will
not be able to contribute your thoughts (which is 90% of the
fun) until you register, for
which read on...
Registering for the Site
To get the most out of this forum, you will need to register as a member. Don't
worry, no-one expect for Pete and Camie can see your email address
unless you explicitly chose to let them and you should therefore not
get spam as a result of registering.
What you will get is a chance to join the discussion preceeding and
during our trip. In addition, at irregular intervals when we can find
internet cafes we will
be posting online diaries for our travels. We don't plan to take
hundreds of email addresses with us or to send bulletins to people
unsolicited, so this is the best way to keep in
touch with us.
How to register:
- go to http://www.camieandpetestrip.com/forum/profile.php?mode=register
and click to confirm that you are over 13 years of age
- enter your username, a valid email address and a
password (remember the username and password!)
- type the code that you see into the
“confirmation code” box (case sensitive and zero’s
have a diagonal line through them)
- add any additional (optional) information you wish to
- scroll down the page and click on the
“Submit” button to register
- if you have any problems at this point, please email
me at pete@camieandpetestrip.com
and I will be happy to help
- if you have no problems, you will now receive an
email confirmation to the address you entered
- click on the link in this email to complete the
registration process – you are now registered!
Logging on to the Site
It is really important that
you are logged on to the site each time that you visit it.
To make sure you are logged on to the site:
- go to http://www.camieandpetestrip.com/forum
- if you see the words "Log Out [<your username>]
towards the top right of the page then you are logged in already and
can skip the rest of this intructions
- however, if you see the words "Log In" towards the
top right of the page, you are not logged in and should do the following
- click on the “Log In” link that appears
towards the top right of the page
- if you are the only one who uses this computer, you
can select the “Log me in automatically each visit” check
box, otherwise you need to enter username and password EACH TIME you
visit
- click on the “Log In” button
- now, the “Log In” option that appeared
towards the top right of the page should instead read “Log out [
<your username> ]”. This means you are successfully logged
in
Using the Discussion Forum
Congratulations on getting this far ... the forum might
seem a little daunting at first,
especially if you've not used one before. Basically it contains a
number of discussion "threads" much like email conversations.
When you
go to the home page you will see a top
level list of forums (e.g. "South America - Part I"). Click on these
and you will be taken into a list of topics.
If you click on one of these (e.g. "Overall Plan") you
will see the
actual information. You can read through these and when inspired (as we
fervently hope you will be!) to contribute your comments, thoughts or
advice - click on the "postreply" button
to add your thoughts (you need to be registered and logged in) to an
existing
discussion or on the "newtopic" button
to start a new discussion under the appropriate forum
(again you need to be registered and logged in).
If you do not see
these buttons the most likely reason is that you are not logged
in.
Finally, you can click on the big "phpBB" logo at the
top left of the page at any time to return to the top page.
Viewing our Photos
Through the trip, we will be posting photos when technology permits to http://www.camieandpetestrip.com/photos.
The same username and password applies as above and, again, you will
need to log in to add your comments or rate the photos.
Phew, hopefully all that makes sense, but if you need
some help please do not hesitate to email Pete with your
questions
Thanks and see you online!
Pete and Camie
